Things I’ve made so far! Yes, I cut those colored stones, which are corundum (the family that rubies and sapphires belong to)! :D

L’École des Arts Joailliers is an unassuming establishment in the heart of Paris in the first arrondissement. If you weren’t looking closely to find the building, you would easily miss it because there are no obvious signs as you walk down Rue Danielle Casanova.

Rue Danielle Casanova in the heart of Paris!

L’École des Arts Joailliers is the jewelry school operated in association with the famed jewelry house Van Cleef & Arpels. It is arguably the world epicenter of high jewelry, or haute joaillerie. I’ve been fascinated by jewelry for decades; I even had ambitions of designing and making our wedding rings. Alas, I simply didn’t have the savoir-faire, or know-how, to realize those dreams. Knowledge was simply too sparse and hard to coalesce in America. Over the years, however, I’ve been able to collect more knowledge and experience and when I learned about L’École des Arts Joailliers, which opened in 2012, I knew someday I would want to learn from the masters. I got lucky this year when we decided to visit Paris.

This summer, I’ve signed up for eighteen courses, and I will blog about them purely for selfish reasons: I don’t want to forget the experience and what I learned! I’ve taken three courses so far and they’ve all been superb! I highly recommend it if you come to Paris, even for a day. It’s a very rewarding experience and for the savoir-faire courses, you always walk away with a memento, which is just icing on the cake!

Stay tuned! :)
